Nicecast was really an exciting application. It even got some awards in 2004. But now, as it was mentioned above, Nicecast is now out of trend. Really weak functionality as for today.
MP3 codec is fine. But nowadays people prefer HE AAC streams (32 or 64 kbit/s) for listening on mobile devices with expensive traffic.
HE AAC came out in 2004. Icecast2 server got AAC streamming support in 2004. I'm watching at '2013' on my calendar now. Multistreaming gives people a choice in desired sound quality.
Nicecast does not have this feature also. Nicecast supports some Icecast2 server features like intros and some others. Built-in Icacast2 server supports it's features, but to use them you should perform some dark rituals like openening application's contents and editing configuration files with coding and changing scripts. More and more windows software provides great statistics about listeners: max/min/avg of all connections and unique listeners per hour/day/week and so on, geographical location of listeners and other stuff. Nicecast shows only current number of connected listeners. I believe, somewhere in logs there should be an info of max listeners, but again it's a kind of voodoo magic to find and organize this information.
Let's mention that we' chosen macs for their ease of use and intuitive interface. So, this app was on top in 2004.
Now it's really useless. It's like an iPhone firmware 1.0: it was really cool in 2007, letting you make calls, write sms (no mms) and scroll contact list. But today it's not enough. Installation: no step-by-step guide Appearence: nothing changed since fist versions Usability: Hard to use some hiden very deep from common users Icecast2 feaures. Not released features I should say. Functionality: I'm laughing. Stability: very stable))) taking into consideration the absence of features and functionality.
Pros: instant on supports almost all applications for sound capture, even browsers vst/auplug-ins support simple, easy to use Cons: no HE AAC Codec no mulistreaming no Icecast2 server features no statistics no remote control from iphone/ipad reviewed on January 28, 2013. Nicecast is for pupils. Pros: VST/AU plug-ins built-in plugins instant on Cons: No AAC HE streaming No multistreaming No Icecast2-server features like intros, autodj and others No statistics charts Even mp3 codecs are old. Reviewed on September 14, 2012. By Anonymous Good?
It's Awesome! If there's a better Broadcaster out there for $40 I haven't found it. It kicks butt! It's Awesome!
If there's a better Broadcaster out there for $40 I haven't found it. It kicks butt! All you need in a Broadcaster from dabbling in your own 'internet radio' show to bringing live bands onto the 'Net.
There may be 'better' Broadcasters out there with more bells and whistles, but Nicecast does it all for $40. No fuss, no muss. Just one click broadcasting. And, no, I don't work for them or have any connection with them.
I just run Nicecast every day. Pros: Many Cons: Can't think of any. Reviewed on September 21, 2010.
